This concert will feature two works that denounce imperialist violence. Prayer for Ukraine, in which Valentin Silvestrov (1937) raises a plea for his country in the ravages of war, and Symphony No. 7, Op. 60, Leningrad by Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1975), in which the composer secretly expresses his fury at Stalin's authoritarian regime.
